CAPE TOWN - Anti-Gang Unit detectives are probing a mass murder in Bishop Lavis.

Two men and two women were shot and killed on Friday night.

One of the victims was an 80-year-old.

Police said two gunmen opened fire on the four victims inside a bedroom and fled the scene in a VW Polo.

The Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum's Graham Lindhorst said one of the deceased is an elderly woman.

"We condemn in the strongest terms this senseless killing and we send our condolences to the family, and we call on SAPS [South African Police Service] in the area to increase their visibility. We also call on SAPS to be more vigilant and make sure that they prevent these sorts of killings."
