Bavuma reflected on his need to return home with the World Test Championship mace.

"You know when you sit alone, you think of where it started, everything that happened to get to the point of being at Lords, having that opportunity and just paying homage to the people that were part of that story - the family here on my maternal side, the community who supported me through thick and thin..."

Bavuma fulfilled a lifelong dream by hoisting the World Test Championship mace in front of his people and quite possibly inspired the next generation of sporting talent.
