JOHANNESBURG - Talks between Flysafair and trade union Solidarity are continuing at the CCMA on Saturday.
This follows a pilots’ strike and lockout at the local carrier, which began on Monday.
Solidarity is demanding higher wages and better working conditions for its members.
Flysafair was forced to cancel numerous flights this week as pilots affiliated to trade union Solidarity stayed away from work starting Monday.
Solidarity, which represents striking pilots, is calling for a 10.5 percent wage increase, nearly double the airline’s offer of 5.7 percent.
The trade union is also calling for improved rest time and leave benefits, for its members.
Flysafair Spokesperson Kirby Gordon says negotiations, which began on Wednesday, are at an advanced stage.
"In the meantime, Flysafair continues to operate a stable but reduced flight schedule. The airline reports that close to two-thirds of its pilots have returned to duty, and the current schedule has been right-sized to ensure it remains sustainable with the available crew.”
Gordon said that both parties are hoping to reach a resolution soon.
