JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal is hoping there will finally be justice for the killing of its councillor, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, following the arrests of two further suspects.

On the 5th of December 2023, Ndlovu was shot dead in front of his wife and children at his home in Mpophomeni, Howick, north of Durban.

On Wednesday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team arrested a 56-year-old traditional leader and a 26-year-old adult male who allegedly orchestrated the killing while inside the Pietermaritzburg prison.

The two men are expected to appear in court on Thursday, where they will join two other suspects in the case.

At the time of his death, Ndlovu was the DA’s chief whip in the Umngeni Municipality.

The DA’s provincial leader, Francois Rodgers, said: "This matter has been dragging on for some years now, and hopefully this will bring some finality to the family of Nhlalayenza and the party itself. Justice delayed is (not) justice denied, and we trust the prosecuting authority has its ducks in a row so we can get to some conclusion and there can be some accountability and consequence in what was a senseless and brutal murder."
