Expected northern KZN veld fires keep disaster management teams on high alert

DURBAN - Disaster management teams remain on high alert in KwaZulu-Natal, as veld fires are expected in northern parts of the province.
The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) has urged residents to be on alert, as extremely danger fires exceeding 75% on the index are likely.

Areas under the Zululand, King Cetshwayo, uMkhanyakude and iLembe districts are at risk of being affected.
"So far, no incidents have occurred, but teams are on the ground and are monitoring the situation, as the province is expecting wildfires in these areas," said KZN COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila.
