JOHANNESBURG - Murder and rape-accused former pre-school teacher Amber Lee Hughes will appear before the Johannesburg High Court for closing arguments in her matter on Thursday.
The 25-year-old has been behind bars since the death of her ex-partner’s child, Nada-Jane Challita, in January 2023.
Hughes recently confessed to killing the four-year-old by drowning her in a bathtub at the apartment she shared with the child’s father.

After years of feigning innocence, in a short, yet shocking, appearance last week, Hughes confessed to killing the four-year-old by sitting on her in a bath filled with cold water.
Hughes still maintained that she did not rape Challita during her last appearance.
Her confession was met with much relief by Challita’s family, with her father citing all he wanted to know was how long his daughter had to endure suffering before she died.
The self-confessed murderer’s legal team were also allowed to submit supplementary submissions of charges that were not admitted.
