JOHANNESBURG - The father of slain four-year-old Nada-Jane Challita said he was not shocked by the new admissions his ex-partner made about the death of his daughter.

Former preschool teacher Amber Lee Hughes, who was arrested in 2023 for the murder of Chalita, had made shocking admissions during Thursday’s proceedings at the Johannesburg High Court.

Among the 21 admissions she made, Hughes stated that she drowned the four-year-old by sitting on her in the bathtub.

Speaking to the media after proceedings, Elie Chalita shared that he was relieved that Hughes finally admitted to what she did.

"I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time. Did it come as a big shock? Not at all. I mean, it's so easy and everyone knows, and it's very clear. You guys have been following this right from the beginning, so you've heard what I've heard.”

The matter will be back in court on 7 August.
