CAPE TOWN - Child protection advocacy group, Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA), says it hopes former Cape Town teacher accused of sexually abusing young boys will be found guilty when his trial concludes.

Eighty-six-year-old Iain Wares is facing multiple child sexual abuse charges in Cape Town and in the UK during his 40-year teaching career.

He lost his court bid to have his Cape Town case dismissed by the Wynberg Regional Court.

He's also facing extradition to the UK, where he's accused of abusing young boys in Scotland, where he taught in the 1960s and 70s.

Magistrate Vanessa Miki rejected Wares's lawyer's arguments that the State did not have enough evidence to prosecute his client.

She also dismissed the suggestion that the State witnesses' testimonies were not credible, and she believes the State has ample evidence to continue with the case from 14 October.

WMACA founder, Miranda Jordan, also believes that Wares definitely has a case to answer.

"We look forward to hearing the closing arguments on the 14th of October and also look forward to a conviction."

Last year, the Western Cape High Court and Justice Minister Thembi Simelane approved Wares's extradition to Scotland to face charges of sexual abuse.
