Electricity Department says consumers can look forward to lower electricity prices in near future

JOHANNESBURG - The Electricity Department said consumers can look forward to lower electricity prices in the near future.
Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa briefed the members of the media on Wednesday about the country’s electricity grid and strides made through private-public partnerships.
Last year, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed off on the Electricity Regulations Amendment Act, which paves the way for the establishment of a competitive industry.

Ramokgopa outlined possible tariff adjustments.
"For the net, for the consumer, ultimately, the net result is that they were going to keep the runaway tariff increases. And we will get to a point where it plateaus. And in fact, there might be a cliff in relation to the electricity prices.By a cliff, I mean, there could be a period where in constant numbers, they are coming down the electricity prices.”
