Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) SA has been teasing its re-entry on social media, with the tagline 'It’s almost here to take you there'.
Stephen Grootes chats to Thato Magasa, the CEO of the Motus TMPV SA division.
Magasa notes that Tata's share of the passenger vehicle market has grown about 21% in the year up to date.
A large proportion of that growth is below the R500,000 mark he says, highlighting that the brand has a range of entry-level hatchbacks and SUVs which play directly into that segment.
"Tata's strength really lies in those compact and sub-compact SUVs and its hatchbacks. We appreciate that there is some competition if you look to the mid- to large-size SUV space in South Africa... but I think when you speak to your hatchbacks and subcompact SUVs you don't necessarily see a lot of new entrants coming into this segment."
