Cops following leads into fatal shooting of e-hailing driver in Soweto: Mthombeni

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthobeni said they are following leads into the shooting that claimed the life of an e-hailing driver in Soweto and the torching of two vehicles at Maponya Mall.
During the incident on Wednesday night, the driver of the second e-hailing vehicle was also shot at and managed to flee. At the same time, an onlooker was caught in the crossfire and later hospitalised.
Police have opened a case of murder, attempted murder and two counts of arson.

Mthombeni was speaking at a police event in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, earlier.
“We are following information as from yesterday [Wednesday] from crime intelligence, there are leads that we have been following, and we hope that we get to the bottom of it.”
Community members are still demonstrating in large groups outside Maponya Mall, where the incident occurred.
They are waiting to be addressed by Gauteng Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela.
