Ekurhuleni emergency management said when they arrived on scene, the fire was already tamed by community members.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD)’s spokesperson, William Ntladi, said the incident may be linked to a case of mob justice.
"His identities were withheld due to safety reasons and security reasons. SAPS [South African Police Service] were on scene, and the forensic pathologists were called to come and remove the remains to pathological services facility. The actual cause of the fire is unknown. However, it is alleged that now it was a mob justice that happened."
