South African runner Sibusiso Kubheka is the first human to run 100km in under six hours.

At an event organised by Adidas called ‘Chasing 100’, the KwaZulu-Natal runner clocked an astonishing time of 5:59:20 at a pace of 3:35 p/km.

The 27-year-old outran four other ultramarathon runners in an eight-lap time trial exhibition around the Nardò Ring in Italy.

“I’m so proud of my performance out there today,” Kubheka said.

“Breaking this record and becoming the first person to run 100km in under 6 hours was not easy… [but] when we combine the best athletes, the right preparation and sports innovation, anything is possible.”
