JOHANNESBURG - Former Johannesburg city manager, Floyd Brink, has topped the latest round of interviews for the same position he was once dismissed from.

Brink, who was removed in December by the Gauteng High Court over his irregular appointment, is once again in the running for the post.

Eight candidates have been interviewed by a selection panel, with Brink coming out on top with the highest rating.

The city manager is the highest-ranking administrative official in a metro, responsible for overseeing the overall functioning of the municipality.

Eyewitness News has obtained a scoresheet reflecting the performance of eight candidates interviewed for the post of Johannesburg city manager.

Among the contenders is former Johannesburg Property Company CEO, Helen Botes, a controversial figure who, according to the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), caused harm to the entity through what it described as gross negligence.

However, the selection panel appears to favour Brink, who currently tops the rankings, despite having previously been removed from the role.

Brink secured an 81% score from the five-member panel, which is the highest rating among all eight candidates.

Given his high rating, Brink is likely to be reappointed as Johannesburg’s city manager.
