JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe continues to assert his innocence as he seeks to have his fraud and corruption charges withdrawn.

Mabe, along with six co-accused, appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, over an irregular tender awarded to his company in 2017.

The State’s case hinges on its claim that Mabe was still a member of Parliament (MP) when he secured the contract, despite parliamentary rules prohibiting MPs from doing business with the state.

Mabe has submitted representations to the State, seeking the withdrawal of his fraud, money laundering, and corruption charges.

The State has requested six months to review the submissions, noting that his six co-accused have made similar requests.

While Mabe maintains his innocence, he said the charges have brought some positive changes in his personal life.

"One of the greatest things that this case has done is that it has given us the freedom of the soul. As the Bible says, we are stronger together. So that’s what we have learned. So, there’s no stress here, boet. We are fine, we are good."

Mabe will return to court on 18 February 2026, where the outcome of his submissions will be announced.
