JOHANNESBURG - Public swimming pools in the City of Tshwane will not reopen as planned on Monday.

A delay in the delivery of chlorine now means that residents will have to find other ways of cooling down from the heat.

In a statement issued this afternoon, saying that it deeply regrets not being able to open its public pools to residents on Monday.

Their plan was to mark spring day with the reopening of these facilities but a delay, caused by a service provider failing to deliver chlorine on time has affected their readiness.

The city said the health and safety of swimmers remains a top priority and that public pools that have been closed need to be properly treated and tested - before being declared safe for recreational use.

While the delay is regrettable, the city said it values the community’s patience adding that its working around the clock to ensure that most pools are open by mid-September 2025.
