JOHANNESBURG - Some frustrated Coronationville residents are once again protesting the lack of water on the West Rand.
They said that the area has experienced an unreliable water supply for years, but the recent outage, they said, has left them without a drop of water for four weeks.
Households, businesses and healthcare centres have for years contended with water cuts in the area.
Rubble and burning tires have barricaded the busy Main Road with just essentials service providers allowed to pass.
Community members said they are tired of being robbed of their basic human right
Last week, residents were on the streets, with resident Natalie Elias saying that they cannot drink the water coming out of their taps
“When the water tankers come here, then it's dirty water and when the water tankers come, the water is dirty. So even the water that's been provided to you, it's not even drinkable. You have to boil the water.”
Elias added that they will not stop till they have water.

CHILDREN FORCED TO MISS SCHOOL
Residents said that the ongoing water outage has forced their children to miss school yet again.
Children from the area have joined the protest, holding up posters calling for an end to the ongoing water outage.
Residents said their children are being sent home from school because there’s no water supply.
They say their children’s future is being affected by this outage.
“Our basic human rights are taken away. It's been taken away. Our children, our children don't even go to school because there's no running water,” said an angry resident, Shantel Da Gama.
Community members have also shared that the City of Johannesburg promised that this issue would be resolved within 10 hours, but they still do not have any water.
