JOHANNESBURG - Residents from Plastic City, in Brakpan, are fearful of returning to their homes after another shooting incident in the area.
The sound of gunshot rang out on Thursday morning as people were starting their day.
Police said illegal miners have been fighting amongst themselves, shooting randomly.
No fatalities have been reported. The incident comes less than a week after a shooting in the same area.
On 30 August 2025, it is reported that the illegal miners emerged from a nearby dumping site and started shooting randomly, killing two people.
On Thursday, a similar incident occurred. No fatalities were reported but several homes were torched.
The residents of the informal settlement told police they fear living there and have sought refuge in the city.
No arrests have yet been made, but police have opened a case of arson and attempted murder.
