JOHANNESBURG - Laptops, cyber security and email storage systems are among some of the crucial instruments that have been secured for the commencement of the Madlanga judicial commission of inquiry into alleged corruption within police.

On Friday, the commission, which was initially set to begin last week, announced it would commence on 17 September, following the procurement of vital services, a responsibility of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

The commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July, just days after KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made public a series of explosive allegations of corruption and collusion within the criminal justice system.

Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said: "Several contracts have been awarded by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the commission has taken delivery of the procured IT equipment, including 25 laptops as well as ICT infrastructure services."

Michaels elaborated on some of the vital services that the commission required o commence its work.

"This includes a cyber security system, a searchable data storage system, an integrated email management and website development service and a secure internet connection, amongst others," said Michaels.
