CAPE TOWN - A police sergeant has faced tough questions in court about a firearm used in a nightclub shooting during the trial of alleged underworld gang boss Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and 11 others.

Booysen and his co-accused face various charges, including the murder of "Steroid King" Brian Wainstein in 2017.

Some of the charges relate to a nightclub security war between the now-deceased Mark Lifman and Andre Naude, Booysen, his brother, Colin Booysen, and Nafiz Modack.

On Monday, a State witness, South African Police Service (SAPS) Sergeant Dominic Majiedt was questioned about a firearm used in a shooting at a Cape Town nightclub.

Two people were injured when co-accused Bradley de Bula, along with another suspect, allegedly fired several gunshots at Coco Bar in May 017.

A few days later, Majiedt and his partner arrested co-accused Kashief Hanslo for possession of the same firearm while responding to a robbery in Newfields.

"Constable Baliso discovered the firearm in the cubby hole,” the witness said.

The State alleges de Bula, Hanslo and some of the other accused were part of a "hit squad" being paid by Lifman to target certain nightclubs aligned to his rival, Modack.
