CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss the province's rampant crime characterised by severe gang violence.

Earlier this week, Cachalia engaged residents from crime-ridden areas about plans to combat the prevalence of gang violence in Cape Town.

The minister doesn't think the police have an adequate plan to defeat gangs in the province.

Cachalia also raised concerns about failure to implement some aspects of the working agreement to combat crime, between the police, provincial government, and the City of Cape Town.

Premier Alan Winde says he's looking forward to discussing these issues with the acting Police Minister: "Because we have to do this together, we cannot do this in silos. We have got to look how we can bring about new technologies and innovations, how we can create a platform where all roleplayers, the three spheres of government, civil society, how business, how all the players in the criminal justice system come together to find solutions and actually create a safer environment for our residence."
