JOHANNESBURG - Refurbishments by Johannesburg Water to its main water system are set to begin in October, including the repair and replacement of certain infrastructure.
The repairs come as a solution to ongoing water outages faced by communities like Westbury and surrounding areas, where residents have been protesting in the past few weeks.
The system serves three reservoirs, including Hursthill, Crosby, and Brixton.

On Thursday, Joburg Water and mayor Dada Morero addressed the Westbury community and said a short-term solution will be restoring the water in seven days by shutting off supply in other areas.
Joburg Water's Ntshavheni Mukwevho explained the long-term solutions.
"The first thing is the reservoir tower, which will be commissioned in October 2025. We are busy with the project of bulk pipeline and two pump stations, and that will be commissioned in December 2026 and we are also busy with refurbishing reservoirs."
