JOHANNESBURG - Some community members from Westbury have threatened to continue protesting until water is restored to the area west of Joburg.

On Thursday, residents met representatives from Johannesburg Water alongside mayor Dada Morero at Coronationville Community Hall.

The utility promised that water would be restored in seven days, however, this will be done by shutting off the supply in other areas.

Joburg Water explained that its infrastructure is aging, and the demand for water exceeds the supply.

Many residents expressed their frustration with the situation, saying it has been years, and they can no longer tolerate this inhumanity. Some called for the mayor's resignation if he fails to fulfill his promise to restore water.

"I believe that Rand Water is withholding water from Joburg Water, that is why we are here. Secondly, the strike is not over, we will continue in the streets until we have running water in our taps."

Johannesburg Water added that it has allocated R800 million for its entire system refurbishment.
