Man arrested for illegal abalone possession in Worcester

CAPE TOWN - South African Police Service (SAPS) members based in Worcester have arrested a man for being in possession of abalone.
Police officers, acting on a tip-off, followed a maroon Volkswagen beetle believed to be transporting abalone on Friday night. SAPS members stopped and searched the vehicle on Aan De Doorns Extension Road, Johnson’s Park.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the man will appear in the Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday.
“The members searched the vehicle and found 287 units of abalone, 10 galjoen fish, and 180 alikreuk in the vehicle. An adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of abalone.”
