Well-known deodorant brand Mitchum is recalling select products, following user complaints of in some cases severe skin irritation.
In a message to South African consumers on social media, the company says 'some of you have told us that you have experienced skin irritation after using select batches of Mitchum 48-hour 100ml Roll-On'.
The recall affects these products sold in South Africa, the UK and Ireland.
Mitchum apologises to those who were impacted and for the time it took the company to complete their investigation.
Explaining what went wrong, Mitchum emphasizes that the formula itself has not changed.
It identifies a change in the manufacturing process of one of their raw materials as the source of the problem.
"The change... altered how the product interacts with the skin of some of our consumers. This did not meet our standards, nor the standards of our loyal Mitchum community."

"We've gone back to the original process and are working with our retail partners to remove all affected products from shelves."

Some users however, complained that different batches to the problematic ones identified have been causing them skin irritation.
'I’ve been using Mitchum for years', wrote one, 'but this time my armpits were burning and very itchy which resulted in dark armpits.' She says the bar code of the offending product is different from the ones mentioned.
Another complains: 'I am currently sitting in bed with my armpit on fire but totally different batch numbers to these. My armpit is bright red and burning.'
