JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged municipalities to take decisive action against corruption.

He made these comments while addressing the party’s national executive committee (NEC) on Saturday, which convened to assess the state of local government.

Ramaphosa pointed out that corruption is most prevalent within municipalities, yet there is often a lack of political will to hold officials accountable for maladministration.

Ramaphosa adds that parties must ensure their deployees in municipal councils are competent.

“I’m calling on all political parties; when they deploy candidates for local government, even though we will compete with them vigorously, to deploy people who are capable, well-skilled and knowledgeable about local government and the issues our people are facing.”
