JOHANNESBURG - Although Joburg mayor Dada Morero insists interventions to restore water in Westbury and surrounding areas are on track, residents say this is not true.

The areas have been dealing with water cuts for months now due to a problematic water system.

Last week, residents took to the streets to voice their frustrations.

This prompted a response by Johannesburg officials who cut off water supply in other areas to increase the supply in the reservoirs of the affected areas.

During a briefing at Alexander Park reservoir in Kensington on Monday, Morero provided an update on the situation.

"The other areas that we were at last week they are now getting water because of the interventions we are doing, we are doing interventions in this water to ensure that they do get a supply of water."

Westburyresident Bianca Oliver said that although there are 15 water tankers placed in the area, this is not enough for everyone.

She adds that the mayor's briefing does not reflect their reality.

"That is lies. The water came on and the water goes off and now again it's off again. The mayor is just talking nonsense."
