Madlanga Commission: Strict security measures in place ahead of Mkhwanazi's appearance

Strict security measures have been put in place, as police will bolster their boots on the ground ahead of the much-anticipated Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The commission’s public hearings begin on Wednesday morning at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria, where security and access control will be closely monitored.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will take the stand as the commission’s first witness and is expected to testify into early next week.

Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said, “There is very tight security in place and obviously, given the very sensitive nature of the commission’s work, given the very serious allegations of corruption and infiltration of criminal syndicates.”

Michaels said it’s not just the venue that will be closely monitored, but the entire precinct.

“We have been treating the security of the commission and the precinct as absolutely high priority, and we’ve been uncompromising around those aspects.”
