JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says it does not have time to teach African National Congress (ANC) councillors how to govern municipalities.
The party made the statement in response to a comment by ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa during a party gathering this week.
Ramaphosa told ANC municipal leaders who gathered at the FNB stadium in Soweto that DA-run municipalities were the most compliant with audit objectives.
In Gauteng, the DA-run Midvaal municipality has received eleven consecutive clean audits, the most in the province.
Today the DA is set to announce its mayoral candidate for Johannesburg ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The Gauteng leader – Solly Msimanga – says the party is the only organisation which will be able to rescue the city.
“I want to say to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the people of Johannesburg don’t want the ANC to go and learn from the DA. The people of Johannesburg want implementers; that is the DA. We don’t have time to teach people not to steal; we have time to go and implement projects that will turn people’s lives around.” Msimanga said.
Msimanga says Johannesburg has deteriorated under the ANC government.
“We have a clear infrastructure master plan that says the streets are going to be fixed, the electricity is going to be fixed, and the water is going to be fixed. That says the economy is going to pump up again, and we are going to get people into jobs and get rid of corrupt and incompetent officials.” He added.
