Man linked to murder of Richmond municipal manager to be sentenced

The man linked to murdering former Richmond municipal manager, Sibusiso Sithole, will be sentenced on Tuesday following closing arguments in the matter on Monday.

Sithole was killed in March 2017 while investigating fraud and corruption in the municipality.

His case was one of those prioritised and probed by high-skilled investigators.

Sabelo Phewa has been convicted of Sithole's murder and of Amos Ngcobo, who was killed in the Hillcrest area, west of Durban.

The Richmond Local Municipality said it's expecting a harsh sentence for the man convicted of the murder of Sithole.

The Political Killings Task Team investigation positively linked him to both cases.

"We want to attest the arm of the law doing justice to the family, we strongly believe that even the family, they will heal in as much as it doesn’t bring back the victim," said Richmond Municipality mayor, Melikhaya Ngcongo.

He adds they still want to know the motive.

"We all want to know what it is that led to such a barbaric and brutal killing of our municipal asset, the man who loved our municipality with all his heart."

Meanwhile, the Sithole family said it's hoping the judgment will close what has been a painful chapter in their lives.
