Trading at Cavendish Square mall is back to normal after operations were disrupted by a fire.

The mall was evacuated as a precautionary measure on Tuesday after the blaze broke out on the third floor of the garage.

Firefighters were able to extinguish it and a probe into the cause is underway.

Cavendish centre manager Faizah Behardien has confirmed that the fire started in one of the store’s extractor systems, shortly before midday.

City Fire Services spokesperson Edward Bosch said crews managed to locate the seat of the fire, which was an extractor fan from one of the restaurants inside the mall.

"The fire was extinguished, and the damage was limited to the extractor fan and electrical components. The cause of the fire is under investigation."

No injuries or serious damage to infrastructure were reported.
