The Democratic Alliance (DA) has described its eThekwini mayoral candidate, Hannif Hoosen, as a strong contender with a wealth of experience in governance and a strong capability to run the municipality.
On Friday, the party officially announced Hoosen as its candidate amid ongoing campaign preparations for the upcoming 2026 local government elections.
Hoosen has served as a DA member of parliament from 2007 until last year.
The party believes his experience would be valuable at the local government level.
Hoosen is the former DA KwaZulu-Natal provincial chairperson and held the position for over 8 years.

He has also previously served as DA shadow Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Home Affairs, and the Portfolio committee on the Auditor-General.
DA leader John Steenhuisen says the councillor in the eThekwini metro has what it takes to run it.
"Under his leadership, we are going to restore dignity in our neighbourhoods, and we're going to invest in our townships, we are going to light up our streets, we are going to fix our water and sewerage systems and we are going to make this city to work for all of its citizens."
Hoosen has promised that if elected mayor, he will champion service delivery in the city.
