Former African National Congress (ANC) president Thabo Mbeki is set to lead a landmark political school class for party structures in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.
This comes as the party works on its renewal and rebuilding programme.
The session will be Mbeki’s first with the party’s KZN teams since the reconfiguration in February.
The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) reconfigured the provincial structure and later the regions, owing to failures of the previous polls where the party lost its majority.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has roped in its former leader to shed some light on what steps to take to regain the trust of people in the province.
Having lost ground in the 2021 local government polls and the 2024 general election, the party still has a lot of work to do to reclaim lost support.
It said Mbeki, as a seasoned ANC leader, will share insight on strengthening structures of the party.
"This critical engagement will provide ANC members and leaders with clear guidance on what must be done to regain the trust of the people and to ensure that the ANC once again stands as a trusted force rooted in people’s power,” said provincial spokesperson Fanele Sibisi.
This also comes at a time when ANC branches are preparing to elect new leadership at upcoming regional conferences, set for November.
