KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Elaine Harrison, said she would never have supported Police Minister Senzo Mchunu's decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday, Harrison stated her belief that the unit’s dissolution was misguided.
She explained that she had deployed a team of prosecutors to work alongside the PKTT to ensure investigations were prosecution-led.
Although she was never formally informed of the plan to disband the unit, Harrison says she would have strongly objected to it had she known.
"The PKTT showed that it was working," Harrison stated. "It was very evident that the team was working well and to disestablish it would be counterproductive and also disruptive."
