Born and raised in Ekurhuleni, ActionSA’s mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo says he knows exactly what it will take to bring the city back to its former glory.

Khumalo, a well-known crime-fighting activist and host of the reality television show Sizok’thola, was unveiled as ActionSA’s mayoral candidate at an event in Tembisa on Saturday.

ActionSA is the first of the established parties to name a mayoral candidate for the metro, ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

During the announcement on Saturday, Khumalo arrived to a loud reception and was instantly swarmed by ActionSA supporters.

Khumalo says the city of Ekurhuleni has been taken over by drugs and crime.

“South Africa is my home, Ekurhuleni is my home, and the love I have for this place is very big. I have experienced the ups and downs, the pain of growing up in this place. I understand very well what Ekurhuleni needs because I am from here, and I know how things should be here and how things were before.”

Khumalo says he doesn’t have big, unrealistic promises for the people of Ekurhuleni except to say if he is elected as mayor, things will improve.
