Organisation Working on Fire says it's working around the clock to be ready for the upcoming fire season in the Western Cape.

The NGO said it had around 700 firefighters who were undergoing refresher training to ensure that they were fully prepared to deal with the fires.

The organisation also has aerial firefighting support on standby.

Spokesperson for the organisation, Linton Rensburg, said they were confident in their preparedness.

"We’ve seen some early fires, also a lot of concern around climate change and global warming. Our country is getting hotter and hotter as a result of climate change and this puts a huge impact on our firefighting resources. We do see that the fires are getting more intense, they burn longer."

Rensburg said citizens also needed to play their part.

"Make sure that they do not have any unnecessary rubble on their properties, making sure that you do not have overhanging trees or branches that are very close to your property, making sure that you clean your gutters also from all debris. These are simple things that we urge members of the public to do."
