Black Friday (28 November) is on the horizon, followed by Cyber Monday (1 December).

These days are renowned for lucrative deals, and many retailers might make a weekend or a month out of it.

According to South Africa’s first formal Black Friday Index, which was compiled in a partnership between Ecentric Payment Systems and World Wide Worx in 2024, and is based on analysis of data from retail transactions flowing through the Ecentric payment gateway from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, "massive changes" are coming.

"Retailers should prepare themselves for the shift in AI" by introducing and perfecting:

  1. Intelligent technology
  2. Smart payments
  3. Faster checkouts

"If you can't integrate those into your service and into the personalisation of your service, you're going to fall behind," warns Goldstuck.
