Suspended deputy commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, has denied any involvement in criminal activity.
He added that he did not have the time to have meetings with drug lords and crime kingpins with his heavy workload and travelling.
Sibiya was pleading his case on Monday before Parliament's ad hoc committee probing police corruption and interference.
The suspended head of crime detection has been accused of malfeasance and having links to the criminal underworld by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
He said that he was taken aback when National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said that he believed the allegations.
"Every day I'm with the national commissioner or the minister. I'm all over the country and I don't have time to go to meet some drug lords somewhere and start engaging with their operations such as those. So, I'm just saying that I don't commit crime, I'm not involved in crime."
