16 October 2025 | 6:22After more than three decades as a beloved and quirky cultural landmark, the world-renowned pub could soon change hands, marking the end of an era for one of South Africa’s popular watering holes.
Cherise Da Silva of Rawson Properties has confirmed that the legendary roadside attraction, Ronnie’s Sex Shop, located along Route 62 near Barrydale, is officially for sale.
Originally opened as a modest farm stall in the 1970s, the shop gained unexpected fame when a group of friends playfully added the word 'Sex' in red paint to the 'Ronnie’s Shop' sign. The prank turned into a tourism boon, transforming the location into a must-stop destination for locals and international travellers.
Listed at R17.9 million, the sale includes the famed pub, a coffee shop, a gift store, expansive deck seating, over 230 hectares of land with water rights, a small flat, and various additional structures.
According to Da Silva, current owner Ronnie Price, now 76, is holding out for the right buyer and ready to have a 'well-deserved break' as he plans to retain a life right to the main farmhouse even after the sale.
"It is iconic and a world-renowned bar," Da Silva says.
