Speaking on 947, host Zweli Mbhele says he could not believe the news, given the massive role the icon played in his life.
He recalls listening to D’Angelo for the first time when he was just a child.
"Growing up in the 1990s, hearing his voice through my cousin's radio, it’s weird because you could almost relate to the pain, the love, and the hurt just because your cousin was writing down the lyrics."
Mbhele adds that D’Angelo's music will undoubtedly live forever and continue to impact more lives.
“He released three albums in three decades, which blows my mind. They were all impactful, all influenced so many different generations.
“There are legends like him who may leave the earth, but they don’t leave the room. Their music lives on forever,” he says.
