On Tuesday, 21 October, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Atlas – a groundbreaking AI-powered web browser designed around its popular chatbot.

Positioned as a smart alternative to traditional browsers like Google Chrome, Atlas integrates conversational AI directly into the browsing experience.

During its unveiling, developers demonstrated how ChatGPT could perform complex tasks, such as finding a recipe online and automatically purchasing all the necessary ingredients.

The AI agent seamlessly navigated to nstacart, added items to the cart, and completed the process in a few minutes.

Atlas features a ChatGPT-powered sidebar that can answer questions, summarise pages, compare products, help you write in text boxes, and remember what you've explored. One of its standout capabilities is Agent Mode, an experimental feature that allows the AI to research, plan, and act autonomously, all while staying under user control.

With Agent Mode, available to paid users, ChatGPT can interact directly with websites on your behalf, completing end-to-end tasks like planning and booking a trip or analysing data from multiple sources.

ChatGPT Atlas is currently available globally on Apple macOS, with versions for Windows, iOS, and Android coming soon.
