Western Cape Education Department (WCED) spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says there are various anti-bullying initiatives at schools in the province.

"There are various interventions at schools, including values campaigns, cyber wellness programmes, after-school and holiday programmes, conflict resolution and positive behaviour. Bullying is also addressed through the life orientation programme."

Hammond said numerous cases of alleged bullying at schools in the Western Cape were reported during the first half of the year.

"There have been 69 reported cases of bullying to the WCED during the first half of the school year."

Hammond says the cases are investigated by school governing body disciplinary committees for a disciplinary hearing to possibly follow.
