Just over three weeks to go before various world leaders descend on Johannesburg, and former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa says the city is ready to roll out the red carpet.
From the venues and hotels, to transport systems and the routes between them, a lot of work has been put into the G20 Summit preparations.
Shilowa suggests, "Because we have shown that it is possible to keep the city clean, to paint, to cut the grass, to ensure law and order... how about we ensure that that becomes the beginning of a momentum?"
Using the examples of Paris and Athens being cleaned up for the Olympics, Shilowa is urging for this to become a long-term solution, especially in the lead-up to next year's local government elections.
"Throughout the world... whether it's national, provincial, or local government elections – those who are in government try to ensure that people remember the last days when they were in office."
