Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) are deeply concerned about the safety of the Department of Correctional Service (DCS) officials.
This follows a fight that broke out at the Pollsmoor Prison on Wednesday.
It confirmed two prison wardens were injured and two inmates died in the attack.
According to the DCS, the wardens were targeted.
POPCRU provincial secretary Mluleki Mbhele explained: “It has always been our call as POPCRU that within the Department of Correctional Services, it is dangerous for our members, for the officials to work there due to overcrowding and also the minimum staff that is deployed within the department.”
