8 people killed in collision involving truck, taxi on N3's Van Reenen's Pass

Eight people have been killed in a crash involving a truck and a minibus taxi on the N3, between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.
 
The accident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning and has resulted in traffic congestion between Van Reenen and Swinburne.
 
The road has also been closed to allow rescue teams to do their work.

Officials are appealing to motorists to be patient and to exercise extra caution.
 
Spokesperson for the KZN MEC of Transport and Human Settlements, Ndabezinhle Sibiya: "We are saddened by the death of eight people in a horrific accident along the N3, Van Reenen's Pass. The MEC has indicated that the RTI team, working with SAPS accident unit, will be investigating to determine what could have happened."
 
The crash comes as the country wraps up Transport Month.
