After much speculation, Walmart revealed that it will open its first branded store in South Africa at Clearwater Mall, in Johannesburg’s West Rand
US retail giant Massmart announced in September that it would be expanding into the country with its first branded store before the end of the year.
It already operates through Makro, Game, and Builders Warehouse.

Massmart took to social media to share sneak peeks of the new storefront, teasing its location.

In a statement confirming its first location, Massmart president and CEO Miles van Rensburg said they were excited to bring "Every Day Low Prices" to the West Rand.
The store will employ more than 80 people.
“We’re thrilled to bring customers on the West Rand Walmart’s promise of Every Day Low Prices, together with a world-class assortment and shopping experience, both in-store and online. It’s an experience that blends the best of global retail with a proudly local touch."
