The head of organised crime in South Africa, Richard Shibiri, allegedly accepted an amount of R80,000 from attempted murder accused Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.

On Thursday, a detective, who was part of the team that arrested Matlala in May, told the Madlanga Commission that Matlala began dropping the names of senior police officials whom he had paid bribes to following his arrest.

The allegations are contained in a four-hour-long recording.

Matlala consented to the officers recording him upon his arrest during an informal conversation.

Matlala told investigators that he enjoyed the audience of many senior police officials, and that their company didn’t come cheap.

Witness C, a member of Gauteng counterintelligence operations, testified about how Matlala is alleged to have paid large sums of cash, amounting to millions of rands to senior cops.

One such cop is Shibiri.

Matlala is alleged to have given Shibiri a gift of R80,000 after he received his promotion.

"He had given an amount of R80,000 to General Shibiri through a company called AK Trading."

However, Shibiri was allegedly not happy about the electronic transfer that Matlala had done and insisted that the money be transferred back, only to request that Matlala give him the money in cash.

Shibiri remains in his position as organised crime head, despite the damning allegations made against him before the Madlanga Commission.
