Police are appealing to healthcare workers in Johannesburg to alert them if any gunshot wound victims arrive at hospitals for treatment.

They’re on the hunt for suspects linked to the shooting of a taxi boss in Marlboro on Thursday afternoon.

Molefe Moekeletsi, chairperson of the Alexander, Randburg, Midrand, Sandton Taxi Association (AMSTA), was gunned down by an unconfirmed number of suspects.

Police said they’ve found what they believe was the getaway car in Alexander, adding that the driver’s seat was full of blood and bullet holes.

Acting Gauteng Police Commissioner Fred Kekana said they will use hospitals to find the suspect.

"We appeal to all medical centres… please report any person who comes with a bullet wound, so we can be able to engage and trace that suspect."

He added that police recorded 39 incidents of taxi-related violence, with only 65 arrests made.
