Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia returns to Parliament on Wednesday to give evidence on the state of policing before the ad hoc committee investigating police corruption.

Cachalia's appearance follows the testimony of his two deputies, Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo, who told the committee that suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu failed to inform them about his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

Cachalia will also brief the committee on the powers he's delegated to his deputies since his appointment in July.

Cachalia's evidence before the committee comes after KwaZulu-Natal provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, who both questioned Mchunu's decision to disband the PKTT.

Members will also quiz Cachalia on the powers he's delegated to his two deputy ministers, who have been without delegated duties since their appointments over a year ago.

Boshielo told the committee that she was only given responsibilities when Cachalia was appointed as the acting minister in July.

Cachalia also told the police portfolio committee on Monday that the ad hoc committee inquiry and Madlanga Commission will be an opportunity for the police to start over and get their house in order.

Cachalia's appearance will be followed by Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Adv Anthea Johnson on Thursday and Friday.
