Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi has received a stern warning from the Pretoria High Court during his sentencing.
Agrizzi was handed a suspended sentence on Thursday, after he pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering charges against him.
He was handed 10 years for each count, making it 40 years imprisonment, but it has been wholly suspended for five years due to his poor health.
When the State and the defence presented its plea agreement to Judge Papi Mosopa, he was rather critical, questioning parts of it, like whether Agrizzi had really shown remorse when he nly came forward to testify at the Zondo Commission, 12 years after the crimes were committed.
He’s also questioned whether he would not be able to commit the crimes again if he is not imprisoned.
When he handed Agrizzi a suspended sentence, he pointed out that his participation in the crimes should not be taken lightly because of the sentence.
He said he must bear in mind that his actions of corruption have taken the nation backwards.
Mosopa reminded Agrizzi that if he does not cooperate with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in other Bosasa related corruption matters, he will be imprisoned.
